As the sun sets for the second Formula 1 night race to hit the calendar, a couple of surprises are in store.
Kicking things off is the announcement that Brawn GP will be embracing a new sponsor: Canon. The name previously appeared alongside the Williams-Hondas championship winning team of the 1980s. With Virgin leaving to newly introduced Manor for 2010, Brawn GP will be eager to land a title sponsor sooner rather than later. With the clinching of both championships looking quite likely, it will get easier from Brawn GP as the season comes to a close.
‘F1 ROCKS Singapore with LG’ is to be introduced at the first of two night races on the calendar, merging the highest level of racing with the highest level in music. The Black Eyed Peas and Beyonce will be two of many prepared to perform throughout the weekend for the first edition of F1 ROCKS. The musical event will accompany the F1 circus around the world set to entertain racing and music fans alike. Other musicians include N*E*R*D*, ZZ Top, and Simple Minds.
“The first will be an hour-long entertainment show, giving viewers unrivalled access into the glamorous world of Formula One racing with A-List celebrity interviews, TV stunts, unique performances and aspirational and lifestyle features. The second will be a high-octane music special showcasing the best live music performances and interviews,” reads Formula1.com.
Being a night race, drivers need to regulate their bodies for optimal performance. They can’t begin their day as a normal Singaporean would. During the race weekend, drivers need to keep their time schedule paired with the European time in order to successfully complete the practice rounds, qualifying and the race. In order to do that, drivers get to sleep just after sunrise and wake at around 4PM. Most hotels accommodating the teams have special ‘F1’ breakfasts prepared especially for the them because as all locals pack up and drive home, all drivers walk to their morning buffet.
